Little Malvern Court & Gardens

Welcome to Little Malvern Court and Gardens, the home of the Berington family by descent since the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s.

The 14th Century Prior’s Hall – once attached to the 12th century Benedictine Priory, with its tower dominating the views – is open to visitors. Splendidly restored by the late Tom Berington in the 1950’s, you can admire the family and European paintings and furniture, Medieval roof with its cusped wind braces, and collection of needlework and religious vestments from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Stepping outside, there are 10 acres to explore, along with the magnificent views to enjoy over the SevernValley. Highlights change from season to season – the carpets of wild flowers and spring bulbs; flowering Magnolias; collection of old-fashioned roses. You should also look out for the giant lime tree, sadly now damaged by storms over the past decade, but still standing for over 250 years, and the topiary yew hedge, planted by William Berington in the first years of the last century. There are the Cedar trees, planted from seeds brought back from theHoly Land by Charles Michael Berington. The chain of lakes, formally Fish Ponds for the monks, follow the layout from a plan dated 1720 and, like much of the present garden, were restored in the 1980’s.

Whether you come in Spring or Summer, there is much to see. The house and garden require constant attention; they are much cherished and give great pleasure. I do hope you enjoy your visit.
