"The Malvern Hills were formed over 700 million years ago are a wonderful open space for both visitors and residents to enjoy. After the Norman Conquest much of the common land was made over to a royal forest where the king and his subjects would hunt game. Malvern remained an undiscovered backwater until the monks found its seclusion and fresh water, others followed and in the advent of the railway Great Malvern was on the map as a tourist destination. A forerunner to The National Trust was the Malvern Hills Conservators who look after the 3000 acres of Hills and commons. Their Acts of Parliament give right of access to all the common land including managing the land for conservation. Even today it is still possible to walk on the Hills and find yourself at one with nature aside from the more iconic areas such as The Worcestershire Beacon or British Camp."
